Out of the Roots of Jamaican Cultural Music

“KATTEYE” Emerges

Born Alston Delroy Burton in Kingston Jamaica, they started calling him “KATTEYE” at a tender age because of his cat green eyes. He began singing very early too, working with producers like Style Scott, Danny Brownie, Phillip “Fatis” Burrell, etc. While working with Style Scott, Katteye, some call him Katt for short, was the lead singer for a group called The Radicals. Style Scott released a song with the group called “Rum Tree” in about 86-87(you can find it on YouTube). After one album and nothing to show, the group split up.

Then Katteye emerged as Delroy Katt and was all over Kingston voicing tunes for a few producers. In the early 90’s he accepted an offer to sing on Jamaica’s North Coast Circuit @ Jamaica’s top***** 5 Star Hotels. The move proved beneficial to “KATT,” not only did his reputation as a powerful singer increase but he was able to hone his talent as an entertainer. He sang and wooed crowds from around the world.

Late 90’s, early 2000’s “KATTEYE” talents lead him to America where he shared the stage with some of Jamaica’s well known artistes such as Toots and Maytals, Mutabaruka, Pablo Moses, Michael Rose and many others. “KATTEYE” has performed at many infamous festivals; Seattle Summer Reggae Festival, Roots Mtn. Reggae Fest- in Tonasket Wa. Reggae on the River- Humboldt Ca. International Caribbean Fest-Detroit Mi. World Music Fest-Corvallis Or. Sierra Nevada World Music Fest. Ca. as well as Canada; Victoria ICA Folkfest-Victoria BC and Vancouver Isl Music Fest- Courtenay. Back in Jamaica Katteye has performed at Rebel Salute, GT. Taylor Extravaganza and Sting.

Katteye was also the lead singer for the band Live Wyya for 6 years. From 2008 until 2014. They travelled and performed in Spain at the 2010 Rototom Sunsplash, they went to Africa, performed in Zimbabwe, went on North American tours and Caribbean tours.

Katteye is now back to his solo career because being with the band in Jamaica took him away too long from his family back in America. So now that he’s back home with his family, he has a few festivals that he’ll be playing, this coming summer between Portland OR and Seattle WA. Now enjoying his solo career once more, Katteye is available for shows worldwide.
